The client

Shrewsbury & Telford Hospital NHS Trust is the main provider of acute hospital services for Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and mid-Wales. It operates a number of major sites, including the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and The Princess Royal Hospital in Telford, and employs some 5,000 people.

The project

In 2019, Environtec was awarded the asbestos re-inspection tender for Shrewsbury & Telford Hospital NHS Trust’s whole estate.

Key challenges and solutions

From that point, we established a strong working relationship with the Trust, which led to us being asked to take on an asbestos consultancy role. This involved supporting the NHS Project Manager’s plan and scope for future works, largely undertaking refurbishment surveys and managing analytical removal works.

Since then, we have won a 5-year consultancy contract with the Trust. In addition to the services we already provide, we are also involved in a high-risk remedial project. We are currently completing new management surveys for the whole site – a 9-month project that includes updating the MiCAD database.

Environtec staff who have worked with the Trust include a Lead Asbestos Consultant, an Asbestos Surveyor and an Asbestos Analyst.
