The client
The end-client for this longstanding project is HM Courts and Tribunal Service (HMCTS). From 1st April 2020, the HMCTS Facilities Management Contract has been the responsibility of EQUANS (formerly ENGIE), while before that the main contractor was G4S Facilities Management. Environtec has worked as an approved asbestos contractor at HMCTS properties since 2012. Indeed, HMCTS requested that EQUANS retained Environtec’s services as part of its new contract due to the success in the delivery of the previous contract and building knowledge.
The project
The work we do at HMCTS properties is very wide ranging. It includes refurbishment surveys (such as for a Wi-Fi installation project), capital works projects that include building redesign and demolition, as well as window, lift and heating replacement. We also facilitate the installation of LED lighting and AV facilities and undertake asbestos removals. HMCTS properties are UK-wide, so we use our countrywide network of offices and laboratories to deliver our work.
Key challenges and solutions
One of the key challenges for these projects has been managing the transition from G4S to EQUANS. We have particularly helped the new contractor by providing information about past work, helping to make future projects a success. We have also adapted to new procedures for arranging security cover for out-of-hours work.
EQUANS is contracted to manage the HMCTS work until 2029 and we hope to remain a valued partner during this period.
