Candidates will gain theoretical and practical knowledge in the techniques of fibre counting of asbestos air samples using phase contrast microscopy (PCM).
The course includes a full range of PowerPoint presentations, accompanying notes and additional course materials.
Candidates will be required to pass all of the following to be awarded the module:

In-house courses are also available (minimum four delegates).
Candidates for this course are expected to be aware of the contents of HSG 248 (Asbestos: The Analysts Guide) and in particular Appendix 1 ‘Fibres in air: sampling and evaluation of by phase contrast microscopy’.
It is strongly advised by ourselves and BOHS that delegates have 3 months prior experience before attending the P401 or P403. Candidates will preferable have prior experience of analysing fibre count samples and may already be participating in a quality control scheme. Candidates will require prior knowledge of using and setting up a microscope.
We strongly recommend candidates without this experience attend our one day Pre-P403 learning course.
