Identification of Asbestos in Bulk Samples
It is strongly advised by ourselves and BOHS that delegates have 3 months prior experience before attending this course.
Delegates will receive training in the nature of asbestos and its associated health effects, alongside a detailed review of the various products that contain asbestos.
The course will cover, in detail, the theory and application of polarised light microscopy (PLM) and the analytical procedures contained within HSG248‘The Analysts Guide’.
The course contains a large proportion of supervised practical analysis of real asbestos samples in our asbestos training laboratory.
The course includes a full range of PowerPoint presentations, video footage, accompanying notes and additional course materials.
Candidates will be required to pass all of the following to be awarded the module:
A. Formative Practical Assessment
B. Written Theory Examination
C. Practical Examination
Qualification and Certificates
Successful completion of the course will give delegates the practical knowledge and skills to be able to carry out the analysis of samples for the presence of asbestos in accordance with HSG248. A formal certificate is issued to successful candidates directly by BOHS.
In-house courses are also available (minimum four delegates).
Candidates for this course are expected to be aware of the contents of HSG 248 (Asbestos: The Analysts Guide) and in particular Appendix 2 ‘Asbestos in bulk materials: sampling identification by polarized light microscopy (PLM).
It is strongly advised by ourselves and BOHS that delegates have 3 months prior experience before attending the P401 or P403. Candidates will preferably have prior experience of analysing bulk samples and may already be participating in a quality control scheme. Candidates will require prior knowledge of using and setting up a microscope.
We strongly recommend candidates without this experience attend our three day Pre-P401 learning course.
